Last week, Astarte Capital Partners and Toesca Asset Management were pleased to participate in Chile Day 2026 in London, bringing together investors, policymakers and industry leaders to discuss Chile's investment landscape and its growing role in global markets.

As part of the Chile Day Investment Forum, Matias Guajardo of Toesca Asset Management moderated the Agriculture & Finance panel, bringing together Ryan Ramsey, Head of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Capital at StepStone; Hans-Joachim Seyfarth, Head of Illiquid Assets Forestry & Agriculture at MEAG; and Teresa Farmaki, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Astarte Capital Partners.

The panel explored the evolution of institutional investment in agriculture and natural capital, the conditions required to attract long-term institutional capital, and the characteristics that position Chile as an attractive destination for investment.

The conversation highlighted several important considerations shaping institutional allocations to agriculture. Beyond favourable growing conditions, investors increasingly look for the broader ecosystem required to deploy capital at scale: strong rule of law and property rights, established infrastructure and supply chains, access to end markets, experienced local managers and service providers, currency considerations, and sufficient market depth and liquidity.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of land ownership as a long-term store of value and source of downside protection, alongside the role agricultural assets can play in portfolio diversification. Chile's geographic characteristics, established agricultural industry, export infrastructure and ability to build investment scale were discussed as important elements supporting its relevance to international investors.

More broadly, the discussion reflected the continued development of natural capital as an institutional asset class, with agriculture and forestry increasingly considered within dedicated natural capital allocations and long-term portfolio construction.

The Forum followed an Investment Dialogue & Dinner hosted by Astarte and Toesca at the Royal Automobile Club, bringing together a distinguished group of guests for an evening of discussion on Chile and the development of regenerative agriculture in the Andean region.

We were particularly honoured to welcome Mr. Daniel Mas, Minister of Economy & Mining of Chile, who addressed our guests and shared his perspectives on Chile’s economy, investment landscape and opportunities for international investors.

Our sincere thanks to our panelists for sharing their perspectives, to Matias Guajardo for moderating such an insightful discussion, and to everyone who joined us at the two memorable events.

We look forward to continuing the dialogue around the role Chile and the wider Andean region can play in the next phase of institutional investment in agriculture and natural capital.
