Teresa Farmaki named "Woman of Influence in Private Markets" by PEI

July 01 2021

Teresa Farmaki, co-Founder and Managing Partner of Astarte Capital Partners (“Astarte”), a London-based private equity firm focused on sustainable real assets globally, has been named one of Private Equity International’s “Women of Influence in Private Markets”.  Teresa has over 20 years’ experience in private markets and represents one of the few female founders in the private equity and real assets space.

Astarte has a differentiated investment strategy and business model that bring numerous innovative and game-changing features to the industry. It builds institutional quality investment platforms within specialist and sustainable real asset-backed strategies, in partnership with experienced emerging managers or operating teams, all with deep expertise in areas such as natural resources, infrastructure, transportation, and real estate. ESG is core to Astarte’s investment approach and is fully integrated as a comprehensive and proactive framework to assess, create and measure impact across the portfolio.

Over the last year, Teresa has led the negotiation, structuring and deployment of Astarte’s maiden fund and the successful launch of two emerging managers; a UK-focused urban regeneration real estate fund and a sustainable forestry fund focused on South America. She has also executed a major corporate deal for Astarte, securing a minority investment from Pacific Current Group, a major ASX-listed asset manager.

Teresa is spearheading the investment process within the firm, integrating Astarte’s proprietary approach to ESG and social responsibility. Under her direction, Astarte is one of the first real assets managers to commit a share of its carry to improving access to education and equal opportunities, with a portion of profits donated to impact fund investing in for-profit social enterprises serving impoverished communities throughout India and East Africa. She also leads Astarte’s work with the 30% Club and supports the UN PRI, UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures.

Before co-founding Astarte, Teresa was Head of Private Equity for a multi-family office, where she oversaw the investment strategy and investment selection for fund investments and co-investments.  Prior to this, Teresa was CIO for Private Equity at Piraeus Group, where she co-led the establishment of the private equity group, launched three private equity and venture capital funds and developed the group’s strategy in the renewable energy space.  Teresa joined Piraeus from UBS Investment Bank in London and New York, where she advised on corporate transactions in the real assets space in the US and Europe and was part of the team that launched the renewable energy practice of UBS globally.

Researched and compiled by Private Equity International, the Women of Influence in Private Markets was decided on the basis of the nominee’s achievements, their innovation and leadership. The full list of Women of Influence in private markets is available to read here.
