Astarte Capital Partners appoints former Brookfield Annuity CIO to head North American expansion
Astarte Capital Partners (“Astarte”), a real assets-focused investment firm, is pleased to announce the expansion of its North American operations with the appointment of Paul Kerr as Managing Director, based in Toronto. Paul joins from Brookfield Annuity, where he was Chief Investment Officer, a founding member of the management team and Chair of the Management Investment Committee. The strategic appointment will formalise Astarte’s activities in the North American market and provide investors with access to significant local expertise in real assets.
Paul has 17 years of experience in the financial industry, spanning alternative investments, asset management, pensions and insurance. He will lead Astarte’s North American operations, creating a local presence in this key region that that will further strengthen Astarte’s ability to capitalise on the significant number of opportunities in the market, as well as the growing demand from investors for differentiated, value-add investment opportunities within real assets.
At Brookfield, Paul led all investment activities including the monitoring, design and implementation of investment strategies, with a focus on real assets. Prior to Brookfield, Paul worked for ING Investment Management and ING Insurance, where he played a leading role building and managing the private equity, infrastructure and alternative investment strategies. Paul was also a senior executive with Integrated Asset Management (now Fiera Capital), one of Canada’s leading alternative asset management companies.
Paul holds an Honours Business Administration degree from the Ivey School of Business at Western University, a Master of Science degree in International Finance from the University of Amsterdam and is a CFA Charterholder.

Paul joins Astarte’s experienced and multi-disciplinary team of 16 professionals who have over 300 years of combined experience across the spectrum of traditional and alternative asset management. Earlier this year, Astarte and SilviPar AB announced the launch of the SA Impact Forestry Fund, a new investment platform dedicated to sustainable forestry with an immediate focus on South America.
